In the early hours of March 13, 2018, a tragedy unfolded in a quiet Spanaway, Washington neighborhood, forever altering the lives of a young family. Satha Field, a 33-year-old Caucasian female, was found deceased in her home, the victim of a devastating act of violence that also claimed the lives of her two young children.
The events of that morning began to come to light when Clint Field, Satha's 29-year-old husband, contacted 911 and confessed to killing his family.
Before making the call, he had also sent a text message to his father and posted on Facebook, alluding to the grim actions he was about to take. This call prompted a swift response from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, who dispatched a SWAT team to the family's residence in the 5700 block of 209th Street East.
Upon entering the home, law enforcement discovered a horrific scene. Satha Field, along with her 4-year-old daughter Ava and 2-year-old son Ashen, were all found in their beds. It appeared they had been shot and killed while they slept. Clint Field was also found deceased in the master bedroom, near his wife, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
Investigations into the motive for the triple murder-suicide revealed that the couple had been experiencing marital problems and were facing a pending divorce. According to military investigators, as Clint Field was a member of the Air Force stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, he had reportedly been despondent over the situation and may have been receiving treatment for depression. Friends and family members had also heard him make suicidal comments related to the potential end of his marriage. Despite these troubles, there was no known history of domestic violence at the residence, and deputies had never been called to the home before this incident. The act was described by Satha's grieving father as a "selfish act" that took half of his family.
