On August 25, 2006, the life of 34-year-old White female Julie Ann Britt was tragically cut short in Kennewick, Washington. A lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities area, Julie was known for her positive outlook and dedication to her family and her career as a Contract Administrator for Parson's Technology Development and Fabrication Complex. She was a beloved mother to her daughter, Kaitlyn, and son, Connor.
The events that unfolded on that late summer day were devastatingly swift and
final. Julie was at the apartment of a friend, Dewey Mahoney, when her estranged husband, Doug Britt, arrived. A confrontation between Julie and Doug escalated quickly and violently. In a shocking act of domestic violence, Doug fatally shot Julie before turning the gun on himself, ending his own life. The incident, which also resulted in injuries to Mahoney, was immediately classified by authorities as a murder-suicide.
In the aftermath of the tragic event, the community was left to grapple with the sudden and profound loss. Because the perpetrator was deceased at the scene, there was no ensuing investigation that led to any arrests or the naming of any other suspects.
