In the late days of March 2014, a profound sadness fell over a community in Kennewick, Washington. Nathan Tran, a 14-year-old boy, died on March 28, 2014. A student at Columbia High School in the nearby community of Burbank, Nathan was found inside an apartment on South Olympia Street. Law enforcement officials reported that the young man was alone at the time of his death, which was determined to have been caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Prior to his death, it was reported that he had been involved in an argument with a member of his family. Given the circumstances determined by the police, there was no indication of foul play, and consequently, no suspects were sought, nor were any arrests made in connection with the tragic incident.
Born in Kennewick on May 22, 1999, Nathan was a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities area. He was remembered by his family and friends for his infectious smile and his fondness for giving big bear hugs. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, often capturing moments together in "selfies." A special bond existed between Nathan and his grandfather, Abraham, with whom he would spend his summers working in the potato harvest. His passing left a void in the lives of his parents, Alicia Diaz and Hiep Tran, as well as his younger brothers, David and Alex. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life that had ended far too soon, remembering the vibrant personality that had touched those around him.
