Asiya La’Trece Roberts-Husband, a 33-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life in a fatal drive-by shooting on December 27, 2024, in Haines City, Florida. The incident occurred while she was traveling in a white transport van with her 41-year-old employer near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Avenue K. An unknown assailant in a sedan fired multiple rounds at their vehicle, striking Roberts-Husband fatally. Her employer sustained injuries but received medical attention and is expected to recover.
Roberts-Husband was a beloved member of the Haines City community, known for her warm personality and dedication to her work. She was employed at LongHorn Steakhouse in Winter Haven and also assisted her mother, Elrica Roberts, at Rica’s Print Pack and Ship Center. She was the second of 18 siblings and a graduate of Ridge Community High School. Her mother described her as someone who was always happy, loved people, and was eager to help her friends. She leaves behind a two-year-old son.
Authorities believe that Roberts-Husband and her employer were intentionally targeted, though a clear motive has not yet been established. Surveillance footage released by the Haines City Police Department shows a dark, four-door car firing several shots through the passenger window toward the back of the van. A reward of $7,500 has been offered for information leading to an arrest. The police department continues to investigate the case, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. The community mourns the loss of Roberts-Husband, remembering her as a vibrant and caring individual whose life was tragically cut short.
