In the winter of 2015, on the evening of Thursday, January 29th, a burst of violence shattered the night in Yakima, Washington. Elidoro Navarro, a 25-year-old Hispanic/Latino male, was near the intersection of South 7th Street and Pine Street when a dark-colored sedan drove by. Multiple gunshots were fired from the vehicle, striking Navarro. He died at the scene.
His death marked the first homicide within the city limits of Yakima that year and the second in the broader Yakima County.
The investigation was quickly taken over by detectives from the Yakima Police Department's gang unit, who suspected the shooting could be gang-related. They worked the case, seeking leads and information from the public in an effort to bring justice to Navarro's family. Despite their efforts, the initial investigation did not lead to any arrests, and no suspects were publicly identified. The case grew cold, joining the ranks of other unsolved homicides that challenge law enforcement.
