In the early morning hours of July 10, 2016, a night that began with the sounds of a party in Walla Walla, Washington, ended in tragedy for 21-year-old Arturo Eduardo Hernandez, a Hispanic/Latino male. At approximately 2:30 a.m., Hernandez was leaving a gathering on the 500 block of Willow Street when an argument broke out. As he walked away from the party, he was shot.
The single gunshot wound proved to be fatal.
Hernandez was quickly transported to a local hospital before being flown to a Seattle area hospital for more advanced medical care. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries at around 9:00 p.m. that same day. The King County Medical Examiner's office later confirmed his death.
Walla Walla police detectives immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Initially, they explored the possibility that the incident was gang-related, a theory that was later dismissed as investigators learned that Hernandez had no affiliations with any gangs. Detectives processed the crime scene and conducted numerous interviews with individuals who were at the party. However, their efforts did not lead to the immediate identification of a suspect or a clear motive for the shooting. The Walla Walla Police Department appealed to the public for any information that could help them solve the case, asking anyone who was at the party to come forward. In the years that have passed since his death, there have been no reports of any arrests made or suspects identified in the killing of Arturo Eduardo Hernandez. The case remains a painful and unresolved chapter for his family and the community.
