On a Thursday evening in Tacoma, Washington, a simple request for a ride turned into a fatal encounter for Manuel Olmos Jr., a 32-year-old man visiting from Utah. The night of February 9, 2017, found Olmos and a friend at a Taco Bell on North Pearl Street where they approached a group of young men and offered them $40 for a ride. This seemingly innocuous offer sparked a heated argument.
