In the quiet community of Spanaway, Washington, the life of a young, White/Caucasian boy named Ashen Conner Field, age 2, was tragically cut short on March 13, 2018. Ashen, his 4-year-old sister Ava Grace, and their 33-year-old mother, Samantha Field, were found deceased in their home. The devastating discovery was made after authorities received a chilling 911 call in the early hours of the morning from a man who admitted to killing his wife and two children.
The caller, identified as
29-year-old Clinton Field, an Air Force airman stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, informed the dispatcher that by the time police arrived, he would also be deceased. When a SWAT team entered the residence in the 5700 block of 209th Street East, they found the bodies of Samantha and her two young children in their beds. All three had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Clinton Field was also found deceased within the home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigations into the horrific event revealed a family that had moved to Washington about 14 months prior, following Clinton Field's deployment to Korea. While no prior police calls had been made to the family's address, investigators learned that Clinton had been upset and had a past incident involving suicidal mentions. It was also suggested that the couple may have been contemplating divorce. The incident was ruled a murder-suicide, with Clinton Field identified as the sole suspect in the deaths of his wife and two children, including young Ashen.
