In the early morning hours of February 13, 2020, Carmen Sanchez, a 67-year-old female, was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting as she slept in her Granger, Washington, home. The incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. in the vicinity of E Street and East 2nd Street. Multiple gunshots were fired into her residence, with at least one striking and fatally wounding her.
At the time of the shooting, there were other individuals inside the house with Sanchez, but fortunately, none of
them sustained any injuries. Investigators from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office and the Granger Police Department who responded to the scene determined that no other homes in the immediate area appeared to have been targeted, suggesting that Sanchez's residence was the specific focus of the attack.
In the initial stages of the investigation, law enforcement officials stated that they did not believe the shooting was related to gang activity.
