On January 16, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred in Kissimmee, Florida, resulting in the death of Bekzod Nishonboev, a 31-year-old man from Uzbekistan who was in the United States on a work visa that had expired in March 2022. The incident took place at a residence on Arisha Drive, near the intersection of Poinciana Boulevard and Oren Brown Road.
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office identified Gany Narimanovich Djurabayev, a 42-year-old permanent resident of Osceola County and also from
Uzbekistan, as the suspect in the shooting. Djurabayev was arrested on January 17, 2023, and is being held without bond. According to Sheriff Marcos Lopez, the shooting was the result of an argument between Djurabayev and Nishonboev over a $5,000 dispute related to a property down payment.
The altercation escalated into a physical fight, during which Nishonboev punched Djurabayev. Djurabayev then retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and shot Nishonboev around 8:30 p.m. on Monday. Following the shooting, Djurabayev took Nishonboev to AdventHealth Celebration, where Nishonboev succumbed to his injuries.
Sheriff Lopez noted that Djurabayev made spontaneous comments admitting to the shooting when deputies investigated at the hospital. This unusual behavior, where the suspect transported the victim to the hospital, was described by Lopez as possibly driven by guilt.
Djurabayev and Nishonboev were described as friends and neighbors at one point, making the incident particularly tragic. The case is being treated as an isolated incident, and investigators are emphasizing that such disputes should be resolved through legal means rather than violence.
Djurabayev is currently facing murder charges, and his case is pending further legal proceedings. From a criminal defense perspective, it has been suggested that Djurabayev's admission of guilt and his actions in taking Nishonboev to the hospital could be used to demonstrate remorse and potentially influence the outcome of his case. However, the ultimate sentence will depend on the defense strategy and the evidence presented in court.
