Policeman George Pollard of the Lancaster Police Department in Kentucky met a tragic end on April 23, 1906. Pollard was shot and killed by William Humber, a man he had arrested earlier that day for violating the local option law regulating alcohol. During the arrest, Humber became combative and reached for his pistol, prompting Pollard to strike him with a baton. Pollard then took Humber to the local police court.
