Death by Force

Special Officer Marcus M. Martin, aged 28, was tragically shot and killed on August 3, 1907, while patrolling a section of Gracey, Kentucky, near the Louisville & Nashville Railroad tracks. Officer Martin was on duty as a special officer, appointed to assist the town marshal on weekend nights. On the night of his death, as he passed by a home, the owner confronted him. After an exchange of words, the homeowner pulled out a pistol and fatally shot Officer Martin.
