In the quiet hills of Jackson, Kentucky, a Saturday morning turned tragic for 31-year-old Dennis Joe Turner. On September 11, 2010, Turner, a male resident of the small community, found himself in the path of a sudden and violent rampage that would ultimately claim his life and the lives of four others. The events of that day were set in motion by a seemingly trivial domestic dispute that escalated into a mass shooting.
The perpetrator was identified as 47-year-old Stanley Neace.
Reports from that day indicate that Neace became enraged with his wife, Sandra Neace, over the way she prepared his breakfast. This argument quickly spiraled out of control. Armed with a shotgun, Stanley Neace began a shooting spree that spread terror through their mobile home park. His wife, Sandra, was his first victim.
As the chaos unfolded, Dennis Joe Turner, along with Sandra's daughter Sandra R. Strong, and two other neighbors, Teresa Gail Fugate Blanton and Tammy R. Kilborn, were also fatally shot by Neace. The violent outburst shocked the small community as Neace moved through the area, leaving a trail of devastation. After carrying out the multiple homicides, Stanley Neace returned to his own home. As law enforcement arrived on the scene, they heard a final gunshot. They soon discovered that Neace had taken his own life, bringing the horrific event to a close.
In the aftermath, the community was left to mourn the senseless loss of five of its members, including Dennis Joe Turner. Because the sole suspect in the killings was deceased, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths. The incident was ruled a murder-suicide, with Stanley Neace identified as the lone gunman responsible for the tragic events of that day.
