In the summer of 2016, a retired coal miner named Henry Michael Hurt, a 47-year-old White male, lost his life in a violent encounter within his own home in Jackson, Kentucky. On the evening of June 26th, authorities in Breathitt County were alerted to a shooting after two individuals with gunshot wounds arrived at a local emergency room. When Kentucky State Police responded to the residence, they discovered a grim scene.
Inside the home, Henry Michael Hurt was found deceased.
The investigation quickly pointed to his wife, Sandra Hurt, as the alleged shooter. It is believed that she not only shot her husband but also turned the weapon on their son, Alex Hurt, and another woman present at the time, Heather Sizemore. Both Alex and Heather sustained gunshot wounds to the chest.
When law enforcement arrived, Sandra Hurt was found unresponsive and was subsequently hospitalized for what was described as undetermined medical issues. Due to her medical condition at the time, charges against her were not immediately filed. The incident left one man dead and two others injured, sending shockwaves through the Jackson community as they awaited further details from the ongoing investigation.
