In the quiet community of Eagle in McCreary County, Kentucky, a domestic tragedy unfolded on a Sunday afternoon in late January 2015, leaving a husband and wife dead in what authorities would later describe as an apparent murder-suicide. The lives of Amanda R. Ridner and her husband, Jerry Wayne Ridner, came to a violent end at their home on Eagle Sawyer Road.
On January 25, 2015, the McCreary County Sheriff's Department was called to the Ridner residence following a harrowing 911 call
from a witness who reported seeing Jerry Ridner shoot himself on the family's porch. Investigators believe that prior to taking his own life, Jerry had shot and killed his wife, Amanda, inside their home.
Upon arrival, a Kentucky State Police Trooper discovered Jerry Ridner still alive and attempted to perform CPR, but his efforts were in vain, and Jerry succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Inside the house, authorities found Amanda Ridner deceased from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The weapon used in both deaths was a shotgun found next to Jerry Ridner's body.
The investigation into the deaths of the couple pointed towards a murder-suicide, with Jerry Wayne Ridner as the sole suspect in the death of his wife. As the perpetrator died at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with Amanda Ridner's death.
