On March 17, 2016, a welfare check in Pikeville, Kentucky, led to a grim discovery. Inside an apartment building, authorities found the bodies of two men, Travis Thompson and Nicholas Hopkins. Travis, a 22-year-old White/Caucasian male from Independence, Kentucky, was found deceased alongside 36-year-old Nicholas Hopkins of Florence. One of the men had been a student at the University of Pikeville, and the community was left mourning the loss of two young lives.
