In the late hours of a September day, the life of 21-year-old Kenneth 'Alex' Davis was tragically cut short in Bowling Green, Kentucky. A senior at Western Kentucky University with promising ambitions of studying medicine, he was a charismatic and well-loved individual, known for his happy demeanor and love for life. He was an active member of his community, involved in the WKU Student Counsel and the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Hailing from Corbin, Kentucky, he was a 2014 graduate of Corbin High School where he had been a member of the golf team.
On September 3, 2017, in an incident fueled by alcohol, Davis was with a group of friends about a mile from the Western Kentucky University campus when he sustained a single, fatal gunshot wound. The shot was fired by his college roommate and friend, Peter Gall, who was 22 years old at the time. Shortly after midnight, Gall himself reported the shooting to the authorities. When police arrived at the residence, they discovered Davis on the floor, bleeding from his injury. He was transported to Bowling Green Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to the wound.
Peter Gall was arrested and initially charged with second-degree manslaughter. His attorney maintained that the shooting was a tragic accident and that Gall and Davis were very close friends. The incident was described as a result of horseplay. Ultimately, Gall reached a plea agreement with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to the amended charge of reckless homicide. In February 2019, he was sentenced to four years in prison for his role in the death of his friend.
