In the late hours of a Tuesday night in March 2018, a dedicated police officer, Scotty Hamilton, a 35-year-old male, was deeply involved in his duties in the Hurricane community of Pike County, Kentucky. A twelve-year veteran of the Pikeville Police Department, Hamilton was patrolling with a Kentucky State Police trooper when they came across a suspicious vehicle. The officers engaged with the occupants and then decided to search the surrounding area for anyone else who might be on foot.
