In the quiet community of Yeaddiss, Kentucky, a tragedy unfolded on the evening of December 10, 2018, forever altering the lives of a local family. Norma Bowling, a 61-year-old woman, was found deceased in her home alongside her 64-year-old husband, Larry Bowling. The grim discovery was made after law enforcement responded to reports of shots being fired in the Wolf Creek Road area.
The couple had suffered apparent gunshot wounds. The horror of the evening was compounded when their 38-year-old son, Chad Bowling, was also found deceased from a gunshot wound outside a neighboring residence. The violent end to three members of the same family sent shockwaves through the close-knit Eastern Kentucky community. Norma was known as a loving homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother who had resided in Leslie County for her entire life.
As Kentucky State Police began their investigation, a tense situation developed. A trooper responding to the initial reports had his cruiser intentionally rammed by another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle then fired shots at the trooper before fleeing the scene on foot. This encounter led investigators to identify a person of interest in connection with the Bowling family's deaths.
The investigation quickly centered on 52-year-old Paul Douglas Sizemore. Following a manhunt, Sizemore was located and taken into custody on December 12, 2018. He was subsequently charged with three counts of murder for the deaths of Norma, Larry, and Chad Bowling. In addition to the murder charges, Sizemore also faced a charge of attempted murder of a police officer stemming from the confrontation with the state trooper.
