In the late summer of 2019, the community of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was shaken by the tragic death of Lorie Lynn Smith, a 48-year-old local business owner. On the morning of August 24, 2019, law enforcement was called to a residence on North Hewitt Lane, where they discovered the bodies of Lorie and her 45-year-old husband, Stacy Smith.
Investigators determined that Lorie Smith was the victim of a homicide.
Further investigation revealed that in the early hours of August 23, 2019, a domestic dispute had occurred between the couple. During this altercation, Stacy Smith fatally shot his wife before turning the weapon on himself in a murder-suicide. Autopsies confirmed the cause of death for both individuals. As the perpetrator was also deceased, there were no arrests made in connection with Lorie's death, and no other suspects were sought.
Lorie, born on December 8, 1970, was known in her community as the owner of Sew Crazy Monograms and was an active member of the Rocky Springs Baptist Church. She was a mother to two sons. Her unexpected and violent death was a profound loss for her family, friends, and the wider Bowling Green community.
