Brenda Lynne Judd, a 14-year-old Caucasian girl, tragically lost her life on June 24, 1979, in Hallelujah Junction, Lassen County, California. Brenda and her friend, Sandra Kaye Colley, a 13-year-old Caucasian girl, were abducted from the Nevada State Fairgrounds in Reno on April 24, 1979. The two girls were lured by Charlene Gallego under the pretense of distributing advertising leaflets. Charlene led them to a van where Gerald Gallego, her husband, awaited. Gerald, armed with a gun, bound the girls and drove them to a remote location. During the journey, he stopped to purchase a hammer and shovel, tools later used in the crime. Gerald assaulted the girls in the van before taking them one by one to a secluded area where he killed and buried them.
The investigation into Brenda and Sandra's disappearance faced initial confusion due to reports of other missing girls who had run away to join the carnival company at the fair. This delayed the progress of the case. Gerald and Charlene Gallego, known as serial killers active between 1978 and 1980, were eventually apprehended and convicted for their crimes. Gerald was sentenced to death, while Charlene received a lighter sentence in exchange for her cooperation with authorities.
