In the crisp autumn air of November 14, 2019, the life of 22-year-old Darius L. Bolden was tragically cut short in Lexington, Kentucky. Just days before his twenty-third birthday, the young father was a passenger in a vehicle on Hollow Creek Road when a man approached the car and unleashed a barrage of bullets. The driver, miraculously unharmed, sped away from the scene, but Bolden had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
He was rushed to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries that evening.
Darius, known affectionately as 'D-Man,' was remembered as a devoted father to his two children, Xavien and Aubree. A 2015 graduate of Bryan Station High School, he was described by a former teacher as a sharp-minded and calm student who 'brought love and light to our school.' He enjoyed spending his free time fishing, working on cars with his brothers, and cooking for his family. His sudden and violent death marked the 21st homicide in Lexington that year, leaving his family, including his five siblings and girlfriend, heartbroken.
The investigation into Bolden's murder quickly led authorities to a suspect: 31-year-old Demarcus Raymond Depree Hill, also known by the nickname 'Spice.' Witnesses, including the driver of the car, were able to identify Hill. The driver picked Hill out of a photo lineup, and another witness recognized 'Spice' as the shooter. Hill's own aunt confirmed to investigators that he went by that nickname. Following an active warrant for his arrest, Hill was taken into custody and charged with murder, wanton endangerment, and possession of heroin.
