Nas’Jah Moody, a 15-year-old Black male, was a freshman at Shawnee Academy in Louisville, Kentucky, known for his kind-hearted nature and willingness to lend a helping hand to others. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and being outdoors.
On the afternoon of Monday, May 4, 2020, at approximately 3:30 p.m., tragedy struck in the Shawnee neighborhood at the intersection of 39th Street and Alford Avenue.
Nas’Jah was shot in what became another instance of youth violence that troubled the city. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and he was quickly transported to the University of Louisville Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Nas’Jah succumbed to his injuries later that day.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit is handling the ongoing investigation into his death. However, to date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities have appealed to the community for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case, encouraging witnesses or those with knowledge of the shooting to contact their anonymous tip line. His death was one of several involving teenagers in Louisville around that time, highlighting a deeply concerning pattern of violence affecting the city's youth.
