In the late hours of June 17, 2020, a verbal altercation on Convict Pike in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, tragically cut short the life of 33-year-old Brent Allen Ross Tester. During the dispute, Alison Haines, then 20 years old, is said to have retrieved a handgun and fired a single shot that struck Tester. Emergency services transported the white male to Fleming County Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased by the county coroner.
Following the shooting,
Haines fled the scene. Witnesses provided information to law enforcement that led them to a residence on Hall Road, where Haines had gone to her father's house. There, she and a cousin barricaded themselves inside for approximately an hour before authorities were able to take her into custody in the early morning hours.
Haines was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Tester's death. She was subsequently lodged in the Mason County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond. In August 2020, a grand jury indicted her on the murder charge. Court proceedings were scheduled to follow, including a pre-trial hearing and a jury trial set for August 2021. The investigation into the incident was handled by the Kentucky State Police, with assistance from the Fleming County Sheriff's Department and Flemingsburg Police Department.
