In the summer of 2020, Brian Keith Cardwell, a 34-year-old man, was found deceased in the Portland neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. On the afternoon of Saturday, August 1, police were called to a residence on North 17th Street, where they discovered Cardwell's body. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that he had died from a gunshot wound.
At the time of the initial investigation, the Louisville Metro Police Department had not identified any suspects and few details were released to the public.
For more than a year, the case remained without a public resolution. Then, in November of 2021, a significant development occurred when an arrest was made in connection with Cardwell's death. The suspect was identified as Courtecy Miles. According to police reports, evidence played a crucial role in leading investigators to Miles. A witness informed detectives that they had dropped both Miles and Cardwell off at the residence on the day of the incident.
Further investigation uncovered surveillance footage that captured Miles leaving Cardwell's home. The video reportedly showed Miles in possession of a firearm as well as a bag that contained property belonging to the victim. Following his arrest, Courtecy Miles faced a murder charge for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of Brian Keith Cardwell.
