In the early hours of August 6, 2020, the quiet community of Garfield, Kentucky, was disturbed by a violent act that claimed the lives of two men. Steven R. Gann, a 45-year-old male, and his roommate, 26-year-old Jacob R. Loeffler, were found deceased in their trailer on Blackberry Circle Lane. The Breckinridge County Coroner confirmed that both men had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Kentucky State Police were called to the scene at approximately 1:09 A.M. to investigate the deaths.
Their investigation quickly led them to a suspect in Louisville. Later that same day, with the assistance of the Louisville Metro Police Department's SWAT team, 28-year-old Montez D. Johnson was taken into custody at an apartment complex on Ledgewood Parkway. The arrest was made without further incident.
Following his apprehension, Johnson was charged with the murders of both Steven R. Gann and Jacob R. Loeffler. He was subsequently lodged in the Breckinridge County Jail. Autopsies for both victims were scheduled to be conducted by the Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville to further detail the circumstances of their deaths.
