The investigation pivoted, and law enforcement began searching for clues and suspects in the death of the elderly woman. A witness reported seeing a white car in Logan's driveway on November 21, 2020, a crucial piece of information that would lead to a breakthrough in the case.
The vehicle description led police to Alvin L. Brooks, a 34-year-old Shelbyville man. Upon locating the car, investigators discovered a. 45 caliber handgun. Ballistic analysis confirmed that the shell casings found near Deanie Logan's body matched the weapon found in Brooks' possession. The case against Brooks solidified when his own wife provided a damning confession to the authorities. She informed police that her husband had admitted to shooting an older woman and stealing $500 from her.
