Jeanine Marie Hatfield, a 72-year-old female, was tragically killed in her Louisville, Kentucky home on January 10, 2021. A graduate of Shawnee High School, she was known for her extensive volunteer work with numerous charitable organizations.
On that Sunday, police were dispatched to her residence in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood. There, they discovered Jeanine and her husband, Thomas Hatfield Sr., both deceased from gunshot wounds.
The investigation into their deaths began after their son, Thomas V. Hatfield Jr., arrived at a relative's house, reportedly armed and confessing to the killings.
According to police reports, the 49-year-old son told a family member, 'I finally did it, I killed them.' He also allegedly stated that he had attempted to take his own life. Family members then directed law enforcement to the couple's home on Margo Avenue. Investigators found shell casings at the scene that matched a handgun found in the vehicle Hatfield Jr. was driving. He was later treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound before being arrested.
Thomas Hatfield Jr. was taken into custody and charged with two counts of murder. At the time of his arrest, it was revealed that there had been a history of domestic violence involving his mother, and a protective order had previously been issued against him, though it was later dropped. He was held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $500,000 bond.
