On a spring evening in Whitley City, Kentucky, a verbal dispute escalated into a fatal encounter that claimed the life of 31-year-old Brandon John Probus. On April 10, 2021, Probus was shot while sitting in the driver's seat of his vehicle outside a residence on Marshes Siding Road in McCreary County. He was a male. Emergency services transported him to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, but he was ultimately pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting was led by the Kentucky
State Police, with assistance from the McCreary County Sheriff's Office. Their preliminary findings indicated that an argument between Probus and Ashlee R. Bytheway, a 36-year-old woman from Whitley City, preceded the shooting. During this altercation, it is alleged that Bytheway shot Probus once.
Following the incident, Ashlee Bytheway was arrested and taken into custody. She was subsequently charged with murder and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. A grand jury later indicted her on the murder charge. The case against her was set to proceed through the legal system as investigators continued to gather evidence and witness testimonies to ensure a thorough judicial process. Brandon, a U.S. Navy veteran and a father, was remembered for his love for his children and his wide array of interests which included motorcycles, hunting, fishing, and mechanics.
