His life was tragically cut short on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, in Ohio County, Kentucky. Owings, 44, and his grandfather, Calvin Leisure Jr., 66, were found deceased from gunshot wounds outside a residence.
As authorities investigated the harrowing event, a nearby building was found engulfed in flames. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, and upon clearing the rubble, they discovered a fourth body. The deceased was identified as Calvin Leisure III, 38, who was Hunter's uncle. Investigators have stated that the incident appears to be a murder-suicide, with Calvin Leisure III being the suspected perpetrator who shot his nephew, sister, and father before taking his own life.
