In the summer of 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening calm in Louisville's California neighborhood, leaving a family to grapple with an enduring loss. On the evening of June 8th, 33-year-old Donnie LaVelle Fitch Jr., a Black male, was fatally wounded in a double shooting that also left a woman injured. The incident prompted an investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department, which would later be classified as an open homicide.
