Lamont 'Ray Ray' Pillows, a 42-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on the evening of April 29, 2017. The incident occurred in the 1100 block of South 8th Street, near West St. Catherine Street, just a short distance from his home.
According to the Jefferson County coroner's office, Pillows succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.
Louisville Metro Police Department officers responded to a call about the shooting just after 11 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered the gravely injured Pillows, who was then transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In the days following the shooting, a memorial of flowers and balloons marked the spot where Pillows lost his life. Neighbors remembered him as a good person who was preparing to host a party for the Kentucky Derby, one of his favorite events. He was known for his kindness and community spirit.
Despite the initial investigation and pleas from law enforcement for anyone with information to come forward, the case grew cold. The Louisville Metro Police Department has listed Lamont Pillows' death as an open homicide. To date, there has been no public announcement regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in connection with his murder, leaving his family and community still searching for answers and justice.
