In the early morning hours of August 5, 2021, Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy Brandon Shirley, a 26-year-old man, was shot and killed while working an off-duty security job at Rockford Lane Auto Sales in Louisville, Kentucky. He was in uniform at the time of the shooting, which occurred around 2:30 a.m. Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
