Michael Anthony Bishop, a 29-year-old man from Covington, Kentucky, was fatally shot on the morning of September 12, 2021. The incident, which also left a woman critically injured, unfolded around 11 a.m. in the 3100 block of Rosina Avenue. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Michael had been shot multiple times in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The female victim, identified as 33-year-old Alicia Haywood, was shot in the leg and transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition, though she was expected to survive her injuries.
A hardworking father of four and the owner of his own business, Bishop Painting, Michael was remembered by loved ones as having a heart of gold and being willing to do anything for anyone. His family was left reeling not only from the sudden and violent loss but also by the identity of the person authorities quickly identified as the suspect.
Shortly after the shooting, police arrested 18-year-old Keyshawn McCoy. He was taken into custody and subsequently charged with one count of murder and one count of assault. McCoy was then booked into the Kenton County Detention Center. The arrest was particularly painful for Bishop's family, who stated that they had taken McCoy in and raised him like a son. While authorities did not immediately release details on the motive behind the shooting or the specific relationship between McCoy and the victims, the personal connection added another layer of tragedy to the case.
The community was left to mourn the loss of a man described as a dedicated family man and business owner. Visitations were held for Michael on September 17, 2021, followed by a celebration of his life, as his family and friends gathered to remember a life cut short by violence. He is survived by his fiancée, Alicia Haywood, his four children, his parents, and numerous other family members and friends.
