In the autumn of 2021, a life was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. Darien Brown, a 33-year-old male, was fatally shot on the evening of Friday, October 15, 2021. The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. in the Newburg neighborhood, near the intersection of Forest Drive and Fern Valley Road. Brown was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital, but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The events of that night unfolded within a residence Brown shared with his girlfriend.
According to her account to the police, she was in the restroom when she heard Brown enter the house and utter a curse. This was immediately followed by the sound of a gunshot and Brown's cry of pain. Emerging from the restroom, she witnessed a man walking away from their home.
Weeks after the shooting, an arrest was made in connection with Darien Brown's death. On Thursday, November 18, 2021, 35-year-old Michael Lavelle Baker was taken into custody by Louisville Metro Police. Baker faces charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence. Following his arrest, he was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections. The investigation into the shooting was carried out by the LMPD's Homicide Unit.
