In the fall of 2021, a dispute in the east end of Maysville, Kentucky, tragically cut short the life of 34-year-old Russell Chandler Jr. On a Friday afternoon, November 5th, an argument on Buckner Street escalated, leading to Chandler being shot. The bullet struck him in the arm before traveling into his abdomen, leaving him with critical injuries.
He was initially rushed to Meadowview Regional Medical Center and subsequently airlifted to UC Hospital in Cincinnati for more intensive care.
Despite undergoing several surgeries, Russell Chandler Jr. succumbed to his injuries a week later, on November 12, 2021. His passing prompted a wave of grief within the community, as friends and family remembered him as a fun-loving and friendly individual who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. A special service and dinner were held in his memory at the Frontline Valley Church, where a moment of silence was observed for a life lost too soon.
In the wake of the shooting, Maysville police quickly identified a suspect, 62-year-old Gregory Moore, also of Maysville. He was arrested and initially charged with attempted murder, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Following Chandler's death, it was anticipated that the charges against Moore would be amended. He was lodged in the Mason County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.
