On a day that should have been filled with Memorial Day remembrances, the community of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, was rocked by a grim discovery. On May 30, 2022, in the 1700 block of Pitts Point Road, the body of 25-year-old Katelyn Elizabeth Rayman was found. She had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Alongside her, authorities found another woman, 27-year-old Kristin Longaker, with life-threatening injuries.
Longaker was rushed to UofL Hospital, but she later died from her injuries. Katelyn, a resident of nearby Brooks, was remembered as a spunky and energetic person with a great sense of humor.
The Bullitt County Sheriff's Office immediately launched a double homicide investigation. Investigators appealed to the public for assistance, seeking information on a silver 2002 Hyundai Elantra with Kentucky license plate 579-AMN that was believed to be connected to the crime. It was reported that the vehicle had been stolen from one of the victims after the shooting. The community waited anxiously for answers as law enforcement worked to piece together the events that led to the tragic deaths of the two young women.
A break in the case came on June 8, 2022, when the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office announced the arrests of two suspects. Bradley Ross, 32, and Savannah McClanahan, 21, were taken into custody and charged with two counts of murder, first-degree robbery, and tampering with physical evidence. Authorities indicated that the suspects were known to the victims, suggesting that the attack was not a random act of violence. As the legal process against Ross and McClanahan began, those who knew Katelyn mourned the loss of a woman described as a loyal and supportive friend and a loving daughter and sister.
