In the quiet community of Magnolia, Kentucky, a 78-year-old man named Robert W. Myers, a white male, tragically lost his life on Friday, July 29, 2022. The retired Phillip Morris USA employee was a native of Louisville and owned a residence on Hammonsville Road. It was at this property that he discovered three men actively taking items. A confrontation ensued, which tragically led to Myers sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hart County Coroner's Office.
The three suspects, all white males, were seen leaving the scene of the crime in a U-Haul truck, heading north on KY 357. An investigation was promptly launched by the Kentucky State Police, who were called to the scene by the Hart County Sheriff's Office. The following day, authorities located the U-Haul truck, which led them to two of the suspects. Cecil Daniels, 21, and Brandon M. Hodge, 31, both from Elizabethtown, were arrested and charged with murder.
A third individual, 65-year-old Dale E. Hodge, also from Elizabethtown, was arrested the next day and charged with complicity to murder. All three men were taken into custody and lodged in jail. The investigation continued to unfold, bringing a sense of closure to the community shaken by the violent death of one of its own.
In a subsequent court case, all three men pled guilty to charges related to the death of Robert Myers. Cecil Daniels, who was 23 at the time of his plea, admitted to complicity to commit murder and complicity to first-degree burglary, receiving a 25-year prison sentence. Brandon M. Hodge, then 33, and Dale Hodge, then 67, both pled guilty to criminal facilitation to commit murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary. They were each sentenced to 10 years in prison, bringing the legal proceedings to a close.
