On July 19, 1978, Kenneth M. Olson, a 25-year-old patrol officer from East Grand Forks, Minnesota, tragically lost his life. Officer Olson and his colleague, Officer Rick Blazek, responded to a prowler call at 2:30 a.m. at 20 Ninth Street Northeast. While investigating the area, they were in a backyard near the alley when a shotgun blast was fired from a window of the residence, approximately 50 to 60 feet away.
