In the quiet community of Deerwood, Minnesota, a tragic event unfolded on February 25, 2004, ending the life of 40-year-old Lisa Susan Wood Mooers, a White female. A flight attendant for Ryan International Airlines and a mother to three sons, her life was cut short in what was determined to be a murder-suicide.
On that Wednesday, Lisa’s husband, Don Mooers, made the grim discovery at their rural Deerwood home. He found his wife deceased inside the residence from gunshot wounds.
Outside the home, he found the body of his 80-year-old father, DuWayne Mooers.
The investigation by the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office concluded that DuWayne Mooers shot his daughter-in-law before taking his own life. A suicide note authored by DuWayne was found at the scene, confirming the authorities' conclusion of a murder-suicide. Due to the nature of the event, with the perpetrator being deceased, no arrests were made in the case. The incident left the small town in shock and a family grappling with a devastating loss.
