In the spring of 2010, the life of 50-year-old Kay Marie Sisto Peterson, a Caucasian female from Duluth, Minnesota, came to a tragic and violent end. On May 27, she was shot multiple times in the head by her husband, Michael William Peterson, in their family home. The incident was the culmination of what her son would later describe as a controlling and possessive relationship that had soured after three decades of marriage.
In the period leading up to the fatal shooting, Kay had expressed her unhappiness and had filed for divorce in March of that year.
Her son, Jordan, recalled a noticeable change in his father's behavior, stating that his father had become isolated and singularly focused on his wife, to the exclusion of his own children and personal well-being. This possessiveness escalated into a deadly rage that shattered their family. Jordan tragically remembered seeing the bullets that would be used to kill his mother just days before the incident, never imagining they would be used for such a horrific act.
Following the shooting, both Kay and Michael Peterson were found critically injured and placed on life support. They both succumbed to their injuries two days later. Authorities confirmed that Michael Peterson, 56, turned the gun on himself after shooting his wife in what was determined to be a murder-suicide. A handgun was recovered at the scene, and no other suspects were sought in connection with the case as the perpetrator had taken his own life. The family made the decision to donate their organs, a final act of giving in the midst of a devastating loss.
