Mark William Root, a 51-year-old male, was killed on September 13, 2008, a victim of a double murder-suicide. The incident also claimed the life of Jamie M. Gage. The man responsible for their deaths was identified as John Brightman, who took his own life after killing Root and Gage.
The events of that tragic day were rooted in a soured romantic relationship. Jamie Gage had been involved with John Brightman, and she was in the process of ending their relationship. Brightman, who was a tenant of Mark Root, suspected that Gage was becoming involved with someone else. This suspicion is believed to have been the catalyst for the deadly confrontation that unfolded.
