In the quiet lake country of Aitkin County, Minnesota, the lives of two people were tragically cut short in a violent outburst that shattered the peace of the Big Sandy Lake area. Mark William Root, a 51-year-old male, was killed on September 13, 2008, a victim of a double murder-suicide. The incident also claimed the life of Jamie M. Gage. The man responsible for their deaths was identified as John Brightman, who took his own life after killing Root and Gage.
