On November 9, 2014, 69-year-old Robert Duane Peterson of Nowthen, Minnesota, tragically lost his life in a hunting accident in Carlton County. Early that morning, his son dropped him off at his deer stand in Automba Township around 6 a.m. When the son returned approximately four and a half hours later, he discovered his father had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. Authorities determined that Peterson had accidentally shot himself while in his deer stand.
