In the late hours of a summer night in Minneapolis, on July 25, 2015, the life of 24-year-old Abdirahman Ahmed Jined of St. Paul was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded just after 10:20 p.m. near the intersection of Franklin and Chicago avenues, a typically busy area in the southern part of the city. When Minneapolis police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two men who had sustained gunshot wounds.
Both victims were rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center for
treatment. Early the following Sunday morning, Abdirahman Jined was pronounced dead. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later confirmed that his death was a homicide resulting from gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen. The second victim, later identified as 20-year-old Jorge Ulises Zavaleta-Martinez, also succumbed to his injuries.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the suspect had fled the scene, and no one was in custody. The Minneapolis Police Department urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in their investigation. The community was left shaken by the violent incident that claimed the lives of two young men.
A break in the case came about a week later when authorities arrested a suspect in connection with the double homicide. On August 1, 2015, the Minneapolis Police Department announced the arrest of 23-year-old Antonio Fransion Jenkins. Jenkins was subsequently booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center, facing two counts of probable cause murder for the deaths of Abdirahman Jined and Jorge Ulises Zavaleta-Martinez.
