Julie Ann Hildreth, aged 49, tragically lost her life on November 8, 2015, in Aurora, Minnesota. Born on June 2, 1966, in Ely, she was the daughter of Curtis and Janice Harris. Julie was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Babbitt and worked as a nurse's aide at the Ely Bloomenson Hospital before becoming a Personal Care Attendant for her brother and nieces.
On the night of her death, Julie was outside the local American Legion in Aurora with her current boyfriend.
As they were about to re-enter the building, a shot rang out, and Julie fell to the ground. The shot was later identified as coming from a deer rifle. The suspect, John Joseph Plevell, aged 51, was Julie's ex-boyfriend. He was immediately identified as the shooter and was arrested at the scene.
John Joseph Plevell had a history of domestic violence, which culminated in this tragic incident. He was charged with the murder of Julie Ann Hildreth and taken into custody. The community was deeply affected by Julie's death, and a candlelight vigil was held in her honor on November 14, 2015.
