In the quiet town of Andover, Minnesota, a tragic story unfolded in the spring of 2017, culminating in the death of 69-year-old White/Caucasian female, Karen Lund Regnier. On the evening of May 31st, deputies from the Anoka County Sheriff's Office arrived at the Regnier family home on the 900 block of 139th Avenue Northwest to perform a welfare check.
A neighbor had grown concerned after not seeing any activity at the residence for a couple of days and noticing that the garbage had not been taken out.
Upon their arrival, deputies found the front door unlocked. Inside, they made a grim discovery in the family's living room: the bodies of Karen, her 58-year-old husband Brian Regnier, and their 27-year-old son, Aaron Regnier. All three had died from gunshot wounds. Investigators at the scene recovered a. 22-caliber semi-automatic handgun and casings, leading them to quickly classify the incident as a murder-suicide.
The investigation concluded that Aaron Regnier was the sole suspect in the deaths of his parents. It is believed that he shot both Karen and Brian before turning the gun on himself. No other suspects were sought, and no arrests were made as the perpetrator was also deceased. The Anoka County Sheriff's Office had been called to the home in the past for domestic disturbances, and it was reported that Aaron had a history of mental illness and chemical dependency issues.
