On the morning of March 10, 2023, Jennifer Yang, a 36-year-old Asian woman, was found dead in her Andover, Minnesota, home from gunshot wounds. Authorities responded to the residence on the 14900 block of Osage Street Northwest just before 6:30 a.m. after receiving a report that two people were not breathing. Inside, they discovered Jennifer Yang and her 40-year-old husband, Fue Her, both deceased.
The Anoka County Sheriff's Office determined that the tragic incident was a
murder-suicide. Investigators concluded that Fue Her fatally shot his wife before taking his own life. No other individuals in the home were harmed. As Her was identified as the sole perpetrator and was deceased at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with Yang's death.
Jennifer's brother, David Yang, expressed profound shock, stating that the family had not seen any obvious signs of domestic violence. He described his sister as "a force of light and positivity." The couple, who were of Hmong descent, leave behind three young children. In the wake of her death, Jennifer's family organized her funeral with a focus on raising awareness about domestic violence, a topic they noted can be taboo within the Hmong community. Her brother suggested that cultural patriarchy may have played a role in the tragedy. Reports later surfaced that Jennifer had been planning to leave her husband on the very day she was killed.
