On a crisp autumn afternoon, the life of Gregory Nase, a 56-year-old Caucasian male from Columbus, Minnesota, was tragically cut short in a hunting accident on November 17, 2018. The incident unfolded in the woods of Milward Township, about six miles northeast of McGrath in Aitkin County, on a piece of land owned by his family. What was meant to be a day of camaraderie and sport among family members took a devastating turn.
The hunting party was reportedly engaged in a "deer drive," a
method used to flush out a wounded deer. It was during this coordinated effort that a shot, or possibly multiple shots, were fired at a moving deer. In a tragic turn of events, the projectile or projectiles struck Gregory Nase. Emergency services were called to the scene around 1:00 p.m., but despite their efforts, Nase was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.
The Aitkin County Sheriff's Office, along with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. The authorities looked into the circumstances surrounding the incident, as is standard procedure in such cases. However, all indications from the initial reports pointed to a heartbreaking accident rather than a criminal act.
