On March 24, 2022, 15-year-old Derryana Deisha Davis was tragically shot and killed in Columbia Heights, a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The incident occurred at an apartment building located on the 3900 block of 3rd Street NE. Derryana, a student at Columbia Heights Public Schools, was described by friends and family as a bright and intelligent young girl with a promising future ahead of her.
Following the shooting, two juveniles were initially questioned and released by the Anoka
County Sheriff's Office. However, on March 29, 2022, a 16-year-old boy from Minneapolis was charged with second-degree manslaughter in connection with Derryana's death. The Anoka County Attorney's Office filed a juvenile delinquency petition against the boy and sought to have him certified as an adult. The suspect's next court appearance was scheduled for April 26, 2022.
According to the charging documents, the gun allegedly 'just went off,' leading to the fatal shooting of Derryana. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident. The Anoka County Sheriff's Office continued to actively investigate the case to gather more details and ensure justice for Derryana.
