On a tragic Saturday morning, April 17, 2010, the life of 55-year-old Natalia Jurjevna Tomasovic was cut short in a shocking act of violence in a public parking lot in Columbia Heights, Minnesota. The female victim was found deceased alongside her husband, Jozef Franz Tomasovic, 66, in what investigators determined to be a murder-suicide.
The incident unfolded in broad daylight in the parking lot of Asia Chow Mein on Central Avenue NE.
A Columbia Heights police officer, who was merely a half-block away, heard the gunshots and discovered the couple's bodies around 10:30 a.m. The scene suggested a hasty arrival, with the driver's door of their Buick still open.
According to a relative, Natalia had been making plans to leave her husband. The couple had resided in a home on Fillmore Street NE for about a decade, just blocks from where the fatal shooting occurred. Public records indicated that neither Natalia nor her husband had any prior criminal records.
The investigation concluded that Jozef Tomasovic shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. As the perpetrator was deceased at the scene, there were no arrests made in connection with Natalia's death, and no other suspects were sought.
